The Pocono Mountain of North Eastern Pennsylvania is home to National, State and Local parks. Experience four seasons’ fun and adventure among the 2,400 square miles of natural areas including nine state parks, two national parks and hundreds of acres of state Gamelands. These parks are a preservation of land perfect for hiking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, camping, swimming and picnicking. Swim or canoe along the shores of the Delaware and Lehigh rivers. Visitors can gaze up and out at rural scenery, view local fauna in their natural habitat and miraculous waterfalls and glacial fields and formations. Delaware State Forest covers 83,519 acres in Carbon County, Monroe County, Northampton County and Pike County. While here, one can explore the forest in many ways including fishing, horseback riding, picnicking, mountain biking, hunting, boating, ATV riding, snowmobiling, hiking, cross county skiing and snow shoeing, sightseeing and camping.
The Delaware Water Gap has been a vacation destination for more than a century. This park offers many activities ranging from hiking, boating, fishing, swimming, hunting, picnicking, biking, scenic drives, camping, horseback riding (with one’s own horse) and reliving the past through period celebrations, the parks birth during the conservation and environmental movements of the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Bushkill Falls, also known as the Niagara Falls of Pennsylvania. Things to do while here include trails varying in length and difficulty, fishing (permit required and can be purchased there), paddle boating (can be rented), miniature golfing, mining for gemstones, picnic areas and a pavilion, a children’s playground, three exhibits to explore, and Bushkill Falls Mining Company Maze. While here there is also a snack bar and Fudge Kitchen as well as various shops.
There are two dozen parks located in Stroud Region which are open to the public, many offer recreation facilities and enjoyable opportunities for active and passive pursuits. A list of these park and descriptions can be found above along with a map. Some of the more popular parks for this area include: Dansbury Park, Zacharias Pond Park, Jay Albertson Park and Gregory’s Pond Park.
Chestnuthill Township Park is located in Brodheadsville which is in the West End of the Poconos. This park has much to offer to young and old. Some activities available here include two playgrounds, a sand volleyball court, basketball court, an all purpose field, a bocce ball court, a paved trail (suitable for bicycles and skates), along with picnic tables and a pavilion.
Mountain View Park is located off of Sullivan Trail in Tannersville. This park is the perfect distance from Camelback/Camelbeach as well as the Crossings to take the kids to burn some energy! It is very clean, well maintained and has public restrooms. This park includes: 4 pavilions which include grills, 3 baseball fields, 1 softball field, 1 soccer field, 2 tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, 1 batting cage, 1 volleyball court, a fitness trail, various nature walking trails, a tree house and well-equipped playgrounds for many ages and abilities. This park is a must see while in the area!
Big Pocono State Park is rugged and scenic, perched on Camelback Mountain. This park has 1,036 acres of rugged terrain and features scenic views of three states which include Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. There are 8.5 miles of trails, many have steep grades and some have extremely steep with rough grades. Horseback riding and mountain biking are permitted in some areas. During established seasons, 800 acres are open to hunting, trapping, and dog training. Additionally, there are areas for picnicking and wildlife watching is popular here.
Blanche Price Park is located in Pocono Pines which is in Tobyhanna Township. This park has picnic areas as well as a well-equipped playground. There are also baseball fields, basketball courts and tennis courts. The main lodge building is also popular to residents for use in the summer.
Tobyhanna State Park is located in Monroe and Wayne County. This park is 5,440 acres and includes the 170 acre Tobyhanna Lake. Activities here include: hiking, mountain biking, swimming, picnicking, boating (boat rental is available), hunting, snowmobiling, ice skating as well as camping. Three trails are available for hiking, the rugged terrain of the state park makes for challenging but rewarding hiking.
Gouldsboro State Park is located in Monroe and Wayne County. This park has 2,800 acres of land and the 250 acre Gouldsboro Lake, popular for fishing and boating (boat rental available). This park is open everyday of the year from sunrise to sunset. Amenities, in addition to boating and fishing, while here include: hiking, mountain biking, picnicking, swimming, hunting, cross country skiing, ice skating and wildlife watching.
Promised Land State Park is located in Pike County, totaling 3,000 acres. Fishing and boating (boats can be rented) can be accommodated by two lakes, 50 miles of hiking trails, 6.5 miles of biking trails, mountain biking, horseback riding (with one’s own horse), swimming, hunting, orienteering, geocaching, cross country skiing and snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice skating, wildlife watching and picnicking. Campgrounds and rustic cabins are also available for camping.
Hickory Run State Park is located in Carbon county and is 15,990 acres. Main features include more than 40 miles of hiking trails, three state park natural areas, and miles of trout streams. The park is open everyday of the year from sunrise to sunset. Amenities also include picnicking, swimming at Sand Spring Lake, fishing, hunting, a 19-hole disc golf course, orienteering, geocaching and GPS tours, 14 miles of cross country skiing, 21 miles of snowmobiling trails, ice skating, and camping. Camping area includes a campground, camping cottages and deluxe camping cottages. A must see while visiting Hickory Run State Park is Boulder Field and Hawk Falls.
Beltzville State Park is in the Southern region of the Poconos. This park is 3,002 acres along with the 949 acre Beltzville Lake. This park is open everyday of the year from sunrise to sunset. Amenities include 15 miles of hiking trails, 2.5 miles of mountain biking trails, picnicking, swimming, boating (boat rentals available), water-skiing, iceboating, fishing, ice fishing, 1,707 acres open to hunting, and cross country skiing.
Lehigh Gorge State Park is located in Luzerne and Carbon Counties and is open everyday of the year from sunrise to sunset. Whitewater boating, with three trips varying in length, and biking are popular activities here with 26 miles of biking trails. There are 33 miles of hiking trails which include waterfalls, fishing, hunting, cross country skiing, 15 miles of snowmobiling, and a great diversity of plants and animals.
